OSKALOOSA ANIMAL CONTROL

Ed Hattemer, Animal Control Officer

The City of Oskaloosa enforces a leash law in accordance with the Code of the City of Oskaloosa Chapter II. "Animal Control and Regulations," Articles 1, 2, and 3.

Residents of the City of Oskaloosa are allowed to own no more than two dogs or two cats or one of each. All dogs and cats must be contained on a leash or in a pen at all times. City tags are required for dogs and cats staying in the City past thirty (30) days. Annual tags are $20 for non-fixed dogs/cats and $10 for fixed dogs/cats. Proof of rabies vaccination is required to purchase City tags.

Tags are to be obtained at City Hall during regular business hours. Tags expire May 31st of each year. The owner is allowed the month of June to tag without penalty. Beginning July 1st of each year a 25 cents per day penalty is assessed to the cost of the tag renewal.

Animals running at large are impounded at the Jefferson County Humane Society in Valley Falls. In order for an owner to reclaim their pet, the owner must first obtain a release from the City Clerk's office and pay all fines and fees.  Impound fees are $50.00 for the first offense, $75.00 for the second offense, and $100.00 for the third and subsequent offenses. Running at large animals are also subject to the municipal court process.
